Saffron Fine Food & Bar

Saffron
The King of Spices

When Mr. Ravindra Patel, Inder Arora and Vikas Khanna were discussing the project of opening the finest Indian restaurant in New Jersey, the idea was to provide guests with highest standard of service and the best food. What name would be more appropriate for this restaurant than "Saffron", the world's most prized and precious spice, also known as The King of Spices.

Saffron- Crocus sativus pronounced [SAF-ruhn] is the world's most expensive spice.  Saffron is the stigma from the crocus sativus flower (see image below). There are only 3 stigmas (referred to as saffron threads) per flower. Saffron is hand harvested, so you can understand why it is so prized and so expensive.  It takes about 75,000 blossoms and 225,000 stigmas to weigh one ounce of saffron.

Saffron colored robes are very common for Hindu and Buddhist monks, as the color signifies selflessness and spirituality.

This color is also one of the three colors of Indian flag, symbolizing the sacrifices made for freedom.

The menu at Saffron is the reflection of the rich and highly diversified Indian cuisine.
